Made in the Mitten

Dir. Zeppelin Zeerip

Modern-day snowboarding began in Michigan when Sherman Poppin fastened two of his daughter’s skis together and stood sideways on his backyard hill in Muskegon. Since then it has taken the world stage by storm - triple cork rotations are now the norm, board technology has entered the 21st century, and families everywhere are starting their kids out on snowboards instead of skis. Made in the Mitten is an homage to where it all began - on a skinny piece of wood in the backyards of the Midwest.

Maybe Tomorrow

Dir. Guillaume Bertocchi

In North-Western Greenland, because of climate change, good sea ice has been vanishing for a few years. The Upernavik Archipelago is located on this exact border between water and ice.

What’s this border like? What’s it like to live there?
Guilhem and Guillaume, two adventurers, wanted to meet the different communities in the Archipelago by ski-crossing from island to island in this world of bad ice.
What will they learn from the locals, who are masters in coping with this ever-changing reality?

Dir. Anthony Goertz

The crucial work of reducing Edmontonians' ecological footprint is done by some of the most marginalized members of our local community. At our world-renowned waste management centre, a company called Quality One hires people with barriers to employment, including criminal records, newcomer status, struggles with addiction, and disabilities of various kinds.

The result: real community in an unlikely place.
